Strategic Objectives and Global Impact

By adopting Ecosia, a search engine that allocates its advertising revenues to global reforestation initiatives, the University of Zakho has established a sustainable and innovative model of digital environmental activism. Following the successful institutionalization of the campaign across all university colleges, the initiative is now being extended to encompass the entire Kurdistan Region.

The primary objectives of the campaign include:

• Promoting Sustainability: Integrating environmental consciousness into routine digital practices of the population.

• Enhancing Global Visibility: Demonstrating the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to international environmental frameworks and climate action.

• Fostering Volunteerism: Encouraging active participation among youth and academic communities in impactful environmental initiatives.

“The Ecosia campaign functions as an effective interface between digital technology and environmental stewardship, enabling the people of Kurdistan to contribute to global reforestation efforts through everyday online activities.”

The regional expansion of the Ecosia campaign represents a pivotal milestone in the environmental development of the Kurdistan Region. It reflects an emerging model of green diplomacy, wherein academic innovation and civic engagement are transformed into a broader national contribution toward global environmental sustainability.
